From 1955 to 1991 there were only four years when the prime rate exceeded the Federal Funds rate by more than 2 percentage points, and none of them were consequtive. Since 1991 the prime has led the Fed Funds rate by over 2 percentage points every year. Currently the gap is 3 points. If you think the economic growth rate in this country is too slow, look at that for a possible reason. Six consecutive years.

Business Cycles Indicators

This file is the Dept Of Commerce Business Cycles Indicators History Files. This is a compilation of a large quantity of statistical information about this country, many dating back to 1945 or so. It may seem dry, but, if you are really interested in what is happening in this country, these files can tell you a lot. The government stopped issuing this series in 1992. Now you have to pay a lot more to buy these from a private service. These end in '92, but are filled with historical information.

Statistical Abstract of the United States

The census bureau has posted more information online than you can believe. Every copy of the Statistical Abstract of the United States ever printed. Scanned and posted in Acrobat (.pdf) format. Also, "Historical Statistics of the United States, Colonial Times to 1970." All linked through the page link above. If you want to know about this country, there it is. A fact freak's heaven.
